Whats with the fire favoritism in this game And Ive played since the first open beta and yes its always seemed to get preferential treatment.

Edit: 1) To clarify - this post was NEVER about which elements were the most powerfuldominant, but simply which ones have had the most mechanical support and hence build diversity and options (Edit: Its about the richness andor depth and complexity of the mechanic and its supporting in-game infrastructure).

I mentioned the open beta thing not to blow my own horn but rather to make it clearer that this post was not about just recent changes.

PoE has mechanically always revolved more around fire than any other damage type, regardless of whether fire was the hot meta.

Ive also heard some good arguments about the conversion issue, so Ive removed that from the post.

For other examples, consider that cold damage still doesnt even have its own channeling skill yet, while fire has multiple.

Minion instability causes minions to explode into fire damage (and yes, I know necromancer gets the option for chaos minions, but that still leaves the other damages out and is anyway only available to her).

Fire also now has its own dedicated proliferation gem for some reason.

Theres also two fire totem skills and none for any other element.

Or consider what one of the the most popular chestpieces for lightning users has been recently - Inpulsas.

Then consider that fire has had by far the most ways to do the same pretty much since its inception.

Blizzard often favors cold in wow as well as its often been the safest path for mages while still pumping out big crits and reliable damage (results may vary by expansion and patch).

But if you look at these gems, youll notice most of them have coldlightning analogues.

The surplus fire-only gems are mostly due to corpse explosion being programmed as fire, elemental totems being fire-based, and more vaal gems for fire skills.

I think corpse explosion as fire makes the most intuitive sense, so if one element had to be chosen, fire should be the highest priority.

Vaal representation might be a valid argument after the next patch.

Totems have to do with the in-game lore of the karui using totems, whose religion is fire based.

I feel except for the vaal skill gems, there are well justified reasons why more fire skill gems exist.

On the passive tree, cold has the most nodes, not fire (lightning the fewest).

In damage auras, I wouldnt say fire is overrepresented; other auras like Hatred are very strong.
